American Short Stories Assignment for VWO6

During this assignment about American Short Stories you will read some short stories written by famous American authors. In the process you will discover and learn about:

  • what the characteristics of a short story are;
  • what makes a good short story;
  • three well-known short stories in particular.

 

You will need to read and study three stories:

  • A Jury of her Peers (1917) by Susan Glaspell
  • A Rose for Emily (1930) by William Faulkner
  • One of the other three stories:
    • A Tell-Tale Heart (1843) by Edgar Allen Poe
    • The Story of an Hour (1917) by Kate Chopin
    • The End of Something (1925) by Ernest Hemingway

Literature Examination (SE) for VWO6

Your knowledge about short stories will be tested during the literature SE. During this examination you will be given a short story to analyse. You will be asked questions about this short story and about the techniques of short story writing in general.
